Serve "One Another"

Hello everyone. Welcome back. Another episode of Five Minutes of Faith, few minutes of Scripture, and one more tool in your toolbox. And if you've been watching these last several episodes, it's been on the idea of how to one another, others?

So as we serve one another, I'm sure all of us are thinking, I'm a public servant. I do this for a living. I got this in the bag.

truth be told, we all want to be servants until we get treated like one it starts to wear on you.

as we serve one another, I want us to consider Christ in his example to us. And I go to the gospel account of John in chapter 13, where he is washing the disciples feet. And think about it, these men have been with him for three years. And they've been hearing these teachings and they're like, wow, this is different.

You're not talking like the religious leaders [00:01:00] in the synagogues. You're not talking as one of the scribes. You're not talking as one of the Pharisees you are really talking about and really causing us to have some conscience like. Wow, is that really what I believe? Is that really what I think? And now he's in his last week triumphal entry, and we know because of history, this is the week before his crucifixion.

He knows he's going to the cross. He knows that he is going to give his life. And what does he do in this meal, in this presentation? He comes over and he takes off his outer clothing and he puts a towel around his waist and he gets to the lowest position possible to the dirtiest position possible. And he starts washing these men's nasty, stinky, rotten feet.

And all of the men are just beside themselves. And he ends that portion of scripture by saying, as you have seen me do. Do [00:02:00] likewise unto others.

Now, the portion I want to conclude on is the letter. Of Paul to the church in Rome and from the 12th chapter,

in verse three, Paul writes, for by the grace given to me, meaning Paul, I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment. So all you captains that are out there, I was in the same place all of you chiefs that are out there, I served in administration.

Get off your high horse. Get back down to reality. Be just like the brand new boot on the ground. So regardless of bugles on your shirt, collar bars, on your shirt collar, or nothing on your shirt collar, we should all be considering how we act with sober judgment. Continuing on a verse six, having gifts, meaning the gifts that have been given to us by Christ, that they differ according to the grace given to us.

Let 'em, [00:03:00] let us use them. And in verses in verse seven, if our gift is in service, use your gifts in our serving. Continue in in verse nine. Let love be genuine of whore What is evil? Verse 10, love one another with brotherly affection. Verse 12, rejoice in hope. Be patient in tribulation. Verse 14, bless those who persecute you.

Bless and do not curse. Verse 15, rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep. Verse 16, live in harmony with one another and finishing off in verse 18 if possible. As far as it depends on you live peaceably with all. So if we consider the actions of Christ, the example of Christ and how he lavish his love, how he gives and [00:04:00] gives, and gives and is willing to forgive us, we should likewise forgive others.

To speak truthfully to others to consider one another, and in doing so serve because he who came did not come to be served but to serve. I hope that's encouraging to each one of you praying for you.
