As of July 1, 2022 HB23 went into effect requiring all first responders and their families (spouses and children), as well as retired first responders to be provided mental health services. The Utah Department of Public Safety has set aside funds and the requirements for requesting those funds. More information will be forthcoming as it is made available.

We've made it as simple as possible so that YOU CAN SEE ANYONE YOU WANT TO. If you are already seeing a therapist you can continue to see them and any visits after JANUARY 1, 2023 are covered by our grant.

Print off the billing letter [CLICK HERE] and bring it to your first visit, don't fill out any insurance and/or HSA information. The letter explains to the therapist exactly how they bill the grant.

The Peer Team and the Department would like every firefighter to see a clinician at least once a year, more if they feel they need it. Just like our annual physicals, we can’t recognize or treat injuries or illlness if we don’t assess for them. It also shows the city, county, and the state how important funding mental health is when we use the funds allocated for it. The HB23 First Responder Grant will not be running out anytime soon, so do not let any worries about cost or availability stop you from getting the help you need.

No, you do not. Peer Team Members are happy to assist you with contacting clinicians but you can set up your own appointments whenever you need to. All of the information you need is contained on this website.

This website contains bios of the clinicians vetted by LCFD’s Peer Team. Read what services they provide, contact their office and ask any questions you may have, make an appointment and sit down with them. Finding the right clinician may take a couple of tries because we all have different pasts, likes, and needs. If one doesn’t seem to be right for you, don't be afraid to make an appointment with a different clinician. That will depend on each person. Typically, the first session or two is dedicated to getting to know each other and finding out what you may want or need to work on. There are different treatment modalities that can be used, they may help you set goals and follow through with them, identify people that help or hinder your progress, etc. Remember, they aren’t experts about you. They are coaches to help you do the work necessary to grow and let go of unhelpful or hurtful behaviors or past traumas.

No one in the department will know if you don’t tell them. Your visits are strictly confidential and your clinician is required to abide by that unless you give permission for them to share your information or you provide information about illegal acts.
